When the Leifeng Pagoda collapsed in 1924, "the streets of Hangzhou were deserted, and tens of thousands of people gathered in Xizhao Mountain every day, competing to pick up Leifeng Pagoda bricks" to pray for the blessing of the sacred bricks.
