Introduction to the history of the academy: Zhao Kuangyin, Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty, named it "Shigu Academy". In the third year of Zhidao in the Song Dynasty (AD 997), Li Shizhen, a native of Hengzhou, expanded his academy and used it as a teaching place for Hengzhou scholars. In the second year of Jinghu of the Song Dynasty (AD 1035), the imperial court bestowed "Shigu Academy", which together with Songyang Academy, Bailudong Academy and Yuelu Academy were known as the four major academies in the country.
