Introduction to the ruins of the monastery: The ruins of the monastery are connected to the palace. It was once the predecessor of the Palace of Holy Cross. It was built by James V in the 12th century. It has witnessed many historical events of the Scottish royal family in its history of more than 800 years - - Weddings, baptisms, coronations and funerals.
The monastery was rebuilt in 1758, but later fell into ruins after a hurricane caused the stone roof to collapse. Since then it has remained in this state until today, and its declining fate seems to have its own origins in the turbulent and tragic fate of the Scottish royal family.
