Introduction to the Jurchen Tree Drum: The Jurchen Tree Drum was used by the ancient Manchus for sacrificial purposes when they went into the mountains to dig ginseng, hunt and other activities. During the sacrifice, the leader leads everyone to worship the mountain god, burn incense, make offerings, kowtow and make wishes. Then each person hits the tree drum three times with a mallet to win the protection of the "mountain god" and pass through the mountain gate smoothly.
