Introduction by Zhu Jiaxiangzi: There are many similar Xiang-style houses in the ancient city, which are local characteristic buildings in western Hunan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Most of the courtyards of the cellar house are wooden houses, which are warm in winter and cool in summer. The ground is made of "three-color mud" mixed with lime, tung oil, and porcelain powder. It is smooth, bright but not slippery, cool but not damp. The doors and windows inside the house are exquisitely carved, and the inscribed couplets such as "A Farming and Reading Family" above the lintel are still eye-catching.
