Introduction to the portrait of Mao Zedong: Mao Zedong can be said to be the creator of this university, and later went here to restore the university when it was closed. The overall height of the statue is 8.3 meters, symbolizing the chairman's death at the age of 83; the statue is 5.2 meters tall and the base is 3.1 meters high. On the base is engraved the chairman's instructions to "run Xiangtan University well", inspiring the work and work of school leaders. The students paid tribute to the great men and had great ambitions to learn from them. This statue is 58 meters in front of the three arches of the school, marking the birth of Xiangtan University in 1958.
