Introduction to the Tigris River: The Tigris River (Dijla) and the Euphrates River to the west jointly define Mesopotamia. It originates from the mountains of Anatolia, Turkey, flows through Iraq, and finally joins the Euphrates River. The rivers join to form the Shatt al-Arab River and empty into the Persian Gulf.
