Introduction to Daiganji Temple: An ancient temple of the Shingon sect located to the west of Itsukushima Shrine. The temple houses Itsukushima Benzaiten, which was moved from Itsukushima Shrine due to the separation of gods and Buddhas, as well as the oldest remaining Buddhist statues in Miyajima. There are many important cultural properties such as the ancient seated Medicine Buddha statue, the seated statue of Sakyamuni Tathagata that was once the main deity of Senjo Pavilion, and the statues of Ananda and Kassapa guarding both sides of it. The Mysterious Buddha Itsshima Benzaiten is said to have been created by Kukai and is listed as one of the three major Benzaiten in Japan.
