In 713 AD, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty conferred the title of King of Bohai County on Da Zuorong, which was first called Bohai Kingdom and established its capital in Huhan City, which is now Dunhua. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was also called Aodong City. As the birthplace of the Manchu royal family, this place was banned for two hundred years in the early Qing Dynasty. In 1882, it was established as a county. Taking the sentence from "Four Books on the Mean" as "the rivers of small virtues flow, the virtues of great virtues are Dunhua", and "the customs are improved". Meaning, named Dunhua.
