Introduction to King Panhu: In the center of Panwang Temple is the statue of King Panhu, with portraits of twelve Yao ancestors standing on the left and right. Like the ancestors of other ethnic minorities, the Yao people originally had no surnames, but they acquired surnames after being influenced by Han culture. However, the surnames of the Yao people are different from the surnames of the Han people. They can be traced back to a certain person or a certain surname. Instead, they were given by King Ping of the Zhou Dynasty. According to legend, Panhu, the ancestor of the Yao people, married the third princess of King Zhou Ping and went into Dayao Mountain to farm and hunt, and gave birth to six boys and six girls. King Ping was overjoyed when he found out and gave them twelve surnames.
