Introduction to Tzu Chi Palace: Directly opposite the Dragon and Tiger Tower is the Tzu Chi Palace, also known as Baosheng Emperor Temple. It was built during the Kangxi period and was dedicated to worshiping Zhenren Wu. Wu Zhenren, whose original name was Wu Kui (tāo), was a famous doctor in the Song Dynasty. He was the local patron saint of people of southern Fujian and Taiwan origin, as well as the Chaoshan area of Guangdong. According to reports, "Wu Kui was a native of Tong'an County, Quanzhou Prefecture during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. He was proficient in medical skills, caring about living people, and used medicines to help people. He was honest and unscrupulous, and was regarded as a god by people far and near. After his death, people in the village built temples with his portraits to worship him. The envoy asked for instructions on the size of the temple, and was given the title of "Tzu Chi". Later emperors granted him the titles of "Zhongxian", "Yinghuihou", etc. Since then, temples were spread across Zhangzhou and Quanzhou, and Taiwan used to be a land of malaria. Moreover, the Zheng family and all the generals were from Zhangquan, so their faith was strong and the temple was built early.”
