Introduction to Carmo Convent: Carmo Convent (Portuguese: Convento da Ordem do Carmo) is a historical building in Lisbon, Portugal. Its medieval buildings were in ruins during the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, and the ruins of its Gothic church are the main traces of the earthquake that can still be seen in the city. The Carmo Monastery is located in the Chiado district, on a hill overlooking Rossio Square and facing the São Jorge Castle Hill. It is located in the quiet Plaza Carmo, very close to the Santa Justa Lift. The ruined Carmo Church is now used as the Carmo Archaeological Museum (Museu Arqueológico do Carmo).
