Introduction to the Red House (Stadthuys): Located near the city square in the city center, it is a Dutch-style building. The heavy hardwood, iron chains, and stone walls make it look solid and simple. Completed in 1650, it was once the seat of political institutions for the Dutch governor and his attachés. Now only one room still retains the 17th-century carved wooden ceiling. Currently it is the Malacca History, Humanities and Literature Museum, which collects Portuguese and Dutch commemorative items, displays traditional Chinese and Malay wedding dresses, and introduces the history of Malacca.
