Introduction to Piano Launch: The "Piano Launch" in 1972 was when students carried old pianos to the roof of the building and then pushed them down mercilessly and smashed them to pieces. This event was originally a dropday celebration for some students. Throwing a piano from the Baker roof is now a favorite tradition among MIT students. This act of throwing the piano was a crooked idea that MIT students came up with to relieve stress.
