Introduction to the synagogue: There is a large Jewish settlement (Mellah) in the new city of Fez where the Royal Palace is located. At the end of the fifteenth century, a large number of Jews were expelled from Andalusia, and many came to settle in Fes. Hundreds of years later, there were no Jews living here, and only a 17th-century synagogue (Danan Synagogue) remained.
