Introduction to the Independence Garden: The Independence Garden (Uhuru Park) was established to commemorate the Independence Day of the Kenyan people. In 1964, President Kenyatta planted a symbolic fig tree in the Independence Garden, which launched the garden tree planting activities. As a prelude, tree planting activities have been held here every year since the rainy season. Foreign heads of state and government visiting Kenya have also made tree planting in the Independence Garden an important agenda. To commemorate Kenya's independence, the Kenyan government also built two monuments in the garden during the 20th and 25th anniversaries of Kenya's independence.
