Introduction to the New Fourth Army: Nanchang is the birthplace of the New Fourth Army. In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, Xiang Ying successfully negotiated with the Kuomintang authorities in Nanchang on behalf of the Red Army guerrillas from eight southern provinces, marking the realization of the southern anti-Japanese national united front and the beginning of the formation of the New Fourth Army. On October 12, 1937, Xiong Shihui, Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Government of the Kuomintang, announced Chiang Kai-shek's telegram in Nanchang, officially revealing the New Fourth Army's designation. This day was later designated as the anniversary of the founding of the New Fourth Army. The entire organizational structure of the New Fourth Army, as well as the army chief and the commanders of the four detachments, were confirmed and announced after the military headquarters arrived in Nanchang on January 8, 1938; the Southeast Branch of the Communist Party of China and the New Fourth Army Military Headquarters directly commanded the Red Army guerrillas in the eight southern provinces in Nanchang. They were reorganized and concentrated down the mountain and sent to the anti-Japanese front line. Nanchang became the center of the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement in the southeast region in the early days of the anti-Japanese war, and was known as "Yan'an of the South".
