Introduction to Baiweizhai: Jiming Temple Baiweizhai was founded in the 1980s, with the mission of inheriting thousands of years of vegetarian culture and inheriting traditional vegetarian cooking techniques. It is an intangible cultural heritage of Nanjing. In 511 AD, Emperor Wu of Liang gathered Buddhist disciples from all over the world at Tongtai Temple and promulgated the "Essay on Forgoing Wine and Meat", ordering all Buddhist disciples in the world not to eat meat. Since then, vegetarianism has become a fine tradition and virtue among Chinese Chinese Buddhist disciples, and Jiming Temple has also become the birthplace of Chinese Buddhist vegetarian culture.
