Introduction to the Church of San Domenico Maggiore: The Church of San Domenico Maggiore (Chiesa di San Domenico Maggiore) is located in the Piazza San Domenico Maggiore of the same name. It was originally a small church built in the 10th century. Church, Carlos II started to build a new cathedral in 1283, completed it in 1324, and rebuilt it in Baroque style in 1670. In the 19th century, the church was restored to its original Gothic style. The University of Naples was once located in an affiliated monastery, where Thomas Aquinas was a monk and lectured here in 1272.
