Introduction to Carl Johan: On the steps in front of the palace, there is a mighty and tall equestrian bronze statue of King Carl Johan. Karl Johan's original name was Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, and in 1818 he was renamed Karl XIV Johan and Karl III Johan respectively. Crowned King of Sweden and King of Norway.
