Introduction to Place de France: French Plaza is located in the center of the old city. In the square stands a monument (celebrating the French technicians who successfully built the canal) and a square minaret. In addition to the courthouse, there are many colonial-era buildings around the square. These buildings were built along the Caribbean coast to protect against pirate attacks and were part of the city wall.
