Introduction to Sorbonne University: La Sorbonne is a historic university in Paris and part of the current Paris University system. Sorbonne University was founded in the 13th century by Father Robert Sorbonne, who was beside King Saint Louis (Louis IX) of France at that time. It began in the 12th century on the Ile de la Cité on the Seine River in Paris, where young people from France, Picardy, Normandy and England were taught in the four fields of theology, law, medicine and art. Later, in 1257, the Sorbonne College was established on the Saint-Genevieve Hill. Because it was the most famous among the many colleges at that time, it was named Sorbonne University after its scale expanded.
