Introduction to Paro Dzong: Paro Dzong is considered to be Rinpung Dzong, which means "castle on a pile of jewels". This magnificent dzong, located on the Paro River, is a fine example of Bhutanese architecture. The sect was built in the 16th century on the basis of the temple built by Padmasambhava. The current building was built in 1644 and houses government offices, the Paro Court and religious associations. The famous Bhutanese movie "Little Living Buddha" was filmed here.
Paro Dzong houses Bhutan's treasured thangka painting - Tende, a religious scroll painting made of silk and cotton, which can be called the largest and most exquisite masterpiece of Bhutanese art. The protagonists in the painting are Padmasambhava and his two wives, Mandarava and Yeshey Tshogyel, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan. Buddhists in Bhutan believe that as long as people worship Tende devoutly, they can achieve the state of nirvana.
