Introduction to the May 4th Movement: Under the influence of the Russian "October Revolution", advanced intellectuals at Peking University began to study and research Marxism, and founded China's earliest publications to promote Marxism. On May 4, 1919, Peking University students started from the Red Building and held a demonstration in Tiananmen Square. This was the beginning of the May 4th Movement, which marked the beginning of China's new democracy. Since then, the square to the north of the Red Building has repeatedly become a gathering place for Beijing students to carry out revolutionary movements.
