Introduction to Jinji Mountain Ancient Fort: It was formerly known as Meijialing, with an altitude of 511 meters. It is located on the right side of Youyi Pass, so it is also called Youfu Mountain. This mountain is 511 meters above sea level, with steep cliffs on its southwest sides. There are three hills on the top of the mountain, forming a tripod. It is an important place for the military to guard the pass. It has been heavily guarded by troops in the past dynasties. Climbing this mountain can take in the charming scenery for miles around the China-Vietnam border.
After the victory at Zhennanguan in the Sino-French War, Su Yuanchun chose this mountain to build three forts, named Zhenbei, Zhenzhong and Zhennantai, in order to strengthen the defense of the Sino-Vietnamese border. The fort is built against the mountain and is made of bluestone with tight joints. In addition to being equipped with a German-made 12-year-old cannon that can rotate 180°, each fort also has underground barracks for storing grain, ammunition and housing soldiers.
In 1907, Mr. Sun Yat-sen, the great pioneer of the democratic revolution, held the Zhennanguan Uprising in Jinji Mountain that shocked China and the world. This was the only uprising that Mr. Sun Yat-sen personally commanded and participated in during his anti-Qing revolutionary career. In 1981, the Youfu Mountain Ancient Fort Group was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Guangxi.
