Memorial Hall Introduction: On January 27, 1945, the Soviet Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp, and the remaining 7,650 living prisoners returned to freedom. On July 2, 1947, the Polish government converted the concentration camp into a Martyrs Memorial Hall, displaying physical evidence and pictures of various crimes committed by the Nazis in the concentration camp.
