Master Tanxu Memorial Hall Introduction: Master Tanxu Memorial Hall is located in the west courtyard of the temple. It is a hall built in memory of Master Tanxu. Master Tanxu is a native of Beitang, Tianjin. He went into business with his father when he was young. He ran a pharmacy at the age of 34 and became a monk at the age of 43, specializing in the teachings of Tiantai Buddhism. After completing his studies, he lectured and propagated the Dharma in Northeast and North China, opened up Taoist temples, and successively founded Harbin Jile Temple, Changchun Prajna Temple, Yingkou Shurangama Temple, and presided over the reconstruction of Qingdao Zhanshan Temple. Master Tanxu gave lectures and propagated Dharma to the public, and also advocated the establishment of monk schools, making the Tiantai sect prosperous in the north. In 1963, Tanxu passed away in the sound of the Buddha at the age of eighty-nine.
