Introduction to Porta Pia: Porta Pia is a gate on the Aurelian city wall. It was one of Pius IV's efforts to improve Rome, so it was named after him. This door was designed by Michelangelo and construction began in 1561. The outer facade is in neoclassical style and was completed in 1869.
