Introduction to the Broken Ship Fountain: There is a baroque art fountain in the Spanish Plaza, called the Broken Ship Fountain (La Fontana della Barcaccia), which is a summer resort for young people in summer.
This fountain was designed and built between 1627 and 1629 by Pietro Bernini, the father of Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It is said that it was caused by the flooding of the Tiber River in 1598. After the floods receded, a wooden boat drifting down the current was left in the center of the square. The artist took this as inspiration to create this fountain.
