Introduction to the square landscape: The inner square is the epitome of Rugao’s revolutionary struggle and a place for activities to pay tribute to the martyrs. On the north side is the 7-fold wall, which commemorates the seven battles and victories of Central Jiangsu; the 7-fold wall consists of 14 walls, which commemorates the struggle of the 14th Red Army. The lower part of the wall is inlaid with 14 granite reliefs. It reproduces the heroic fighting scenes of Rugao's sons and daughters and the glorious course of Rugao's revolutionary struggle. On the walls at both ends of the inner square are inlaid inscriptions written by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries Zhu De and Chen Yi in the 1950s specifically for the heroes of Rugao.
