Introduction to Arapaima: Arapaima, commonly known as walrus, lives in the Amazon River Basin of South America and is one of the largest scaly freshwater fish in the world. As one of the ancient primitive fishes, arapaima has a large mouth, no beards, no mandibles, and strong and well-developed teeth on its tongue. Adult fish can grow to more than 3 meters, weigh up to 250 kilograms, and have scales up to 6 centimeters long. Due to overfishing by humans, arapaima has been included in the protection list of the International Council for the Conservation of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
