City Hall Introduction: Siena City Hall (Palazzo Pubblico) is located in the central square Piazza del Campo. It was built in 1297. Its original purpose was to accommodate the republican government composed of the governor and the nine-member committee. Its architectural appearance is an example of Italian medieval architecture with Gothic influence, with the ground floor constructed of stone and the upper floors constructed of brick. The building’s façade is slightly recessed to adapt to the shape of Piazza del Campo and form a focal point on the square.
