Introduction to Songzanlin Monastery: Gaden Songzanlin Monastery is the largest Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Yunnan Province, and is also one of the famous "Thirteen Forests" in Kangzang area. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, wars broke out in the Kangzang area due to sectarian disputes. The fifth Dalai Lama, with the help of the Mongolian Heshuote tribe, used force to quell the wars. In the eighteenth year of Kangxi (1679), after petitioning Emperor Kangxi for approval, he personally divined and selected the site, and decided to start construction of the temple on the abandoned site of the original Zixia Temple of the Karma Kagyu Sect. Three years later, in the twenty-first year of Kangxi (1681) Year) the temple was completed and the fifth Dalai Lama gave it the name "Gaden Songzanlin Temple".
