Introduction to the Sixth Waterfall: The section from Khartoum in Sudan to Aswan in Egypt is the section with the largest drop in the Nile River. This section is about 1,400 kilometers long, with many canyons and turns. The altitude drops from 460 meters in Khartoum to 180 meters in Aswan, with a total drop of about 280 meters. Due to the different hardness of the rocks encountered along the river, this section of the river bed was eroded to form six waterfalls, named from the lower reaches to the sixth waterfalls. The Sixth Falls is the uppermost waterfall on the Nile River, located 90 kilometers north of Khartoum.
