Introduction to Guandi Temple: Guandi Temple covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters and a construction area of more than 6,000 square meters. It is one of the largest temples in Taierzhuang.
At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, water transportation was prosperous, and merchants from Shanxi came to Taierzhuang in droves to settle down. In the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1735), Shanxi merchants raised funds to build the Shanxi Guild Hall and pay homage to the Shanxi sage Guan Yu here. Therefore, the people in Taierzhuang also call it Guandi Temple.
During the Taierzhuang War in the spring of 1938, the General Temple in the Guandi Temple was the forward headquarters of Chi Fengcheng, commander of the 31st Division of the National Army’s 2nd Group Army. During the war, due to the fierce bombardment of the Japanese offensive artillery fire, buildings such as the Chunqiu Tower were destroyed. They were all turned into ruins by artillery fire, most of the houses were razed to the ground, and the remaining buildings were listed as national cultural relics protection units.
