Introduction to Serengeti National Park: "Serengeti" means "boundless plain" in Maasai. It was established as a national park in 1951 and expanded in 1959. It is internationally recognized as part of the Serengeti-Ngorongoro Biological Reserve (together with the adjacent Masua Game Reserve) within UNESCO's People and Ecology Program and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in the same year.
