Introduction to the painting: He officially retired at the 112th Plenary Session of the International Olympic Committee held in Moscow on July 16, 2001. He was immediately awarded the Olympic Gold Medal and accepted the title of "Honorary Lifetime President of the International Olympic Committee". At the opening ceremony of that plenary session, the then Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Samaranch the "Medal of Honor".
