Starting at 8 o'clock, Admiral Nimitz, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, Admiral MacArthur, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the Pacific, and other representatives of the United States and the victorious countries, including General MacArthur, signed the surrender ceremony and continued to board the ship. At 8:56, the Japanese representative, Foreign Minister Aoi Shigemitsu, and the Japanese base camp representative, General Yoshijiro Umezu, boarded the Missouri. At 9:02, the signing ceremony began.
