Introduction to the main entrance: Qamdo Temple has always had a very close relationship with the mainland dynasties. Starting from Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the main living Buddhas of the temple were canonized by successive emperors. The temple still preserves the bronze seal awarded to the Living Buddha Pabala in May of the 58th year of Kangxi's reign. In the 56th year of Qianlong's reign, Emperor Qianlong presented the plaque "Zhuli Temple" to Qamdo Temple. Qiangbalin Temple in Qamdo has five major lineages of living Buddhas, twelve datsangs, more than 5,000 monks at its peak, and governs 70 surrounding small temples. The current Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress, Pabala Gelielangjie, is the temple's largest living Buddha and has been reincarnated to his 11th life.
