Kazan Cathedral Introduction: Kazan Cathedral (Russian: Каза?нский кафедра?льный собо?р, located on Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg, was designed by the Russian architect Voronichin. The foundation stone laying ceremony began in August 1801 The church is based on the ancient Roman St. Peter's Church and was completed in 1811. The building has a cross-shaped plan with a cylindrical top floor in the middle and a square dome on the top floor. It is composed of 94 columns, facing the street and surrounding the square. However, since the main entrance of the church faces the north and the side faces Nevsky Avenue, it is very unsightly. Therefore, a 94-corner semicircular column corridor was erected on the east side of the church to make the Kazan Church more beautiful. It has become a typical Russian-style church. In front of the colonnade stands the monument to Russian commander Kutuzov and the monument to Russian field marshal. In the church are Kutuzov's tomb and the victory medal of defeating Napoleon in 1812.
