Introduction to Agrabit Cisterns: Kairouan was very short of water, so the locals built 15 cisterns in 862 AD. There are currently two pools, one large and one small, called Aghlabite Basins for tourists to visit. Water is brought from afar by aqueducts, first enters small pools for sedimentation, and then enters large pools for use. The large pool is 128 meters in diameter, 5 meters deep, and can hold 62,800 cubic meters of water.
