Introduction to the obelisk: In the center of St. Peter's Square stands an obelisk high into the sky. It is said that the Roman Emperor Caligula snatched this obelisk from Egypt, far away across the ocean, in order to decorate the circular square next to the palace. This stone tablet was later moved to St. Peter's Square by Pope Sistine V. It has a history of nearly 1,900 years.
At the tip of the obelisk are the cross of Jesus' martyrdom and a bronze bell. Bronze lions and eagles are added to the middle and lower parts for decoration, and commemorative text is engraved on the lower part. There is a beautiful fountain on both sides of the obelisk. The trickling spring symbolizes the water of life given by God to believers. Everyone who walks into St. Peter's Square is moved by this magnificent scene.
