Introduction to Maria Theresia: Maria Theresia (May 13, 1717 - November 29, 1780), Archduchess of Austria, Hungary and Bohemia Queen. She was the most outstanding female politician of the Habsburg dynasty. During her tenure, she and her son Emperor Joseph II implemented "enlightened monarchy" and laid the foundation for Austria to become a modern country. The statue now stands outside the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
