There are 50 iron ladders in the monument, as well as a high-speed elevator that takes 70 seconds to the top. After reaching the top, visitors can overlook the entire city of Washington, Virginia, Maryland and the Potomac River through the small windows. The inner wall of the monument is inlaid with 188 commemorative stones donated by private individuals, groups and all over the world. One of the commemorative stones engraved in Chinese was presented by the Qing government. The monument is surrounded by a grassy lawn, where rallies and parades are often held.
