Introduction to the Dingyuan Ship’s Who’s Who: Von Hanneken (1855-1925), a German army officer and the eldest son-in-law of De Cuilin, the Chinese Customs and Taxation Department. He once participated in and supervised the construction of forts in Weihai, Lushun, Dalian Bay and other places. In 1894, he was hired as the chief instructor of the Beiyang Navy and participated in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1896 in the Yellow Sea on the Dingyuan ship.
