Introduction to Panchi and Zhuangyuan Bridge: There is a semi-circular pool built in the vestibule, which is called Panchi. According to the ancient system, the emperor's school (i.e., a national school) must be surrounded by circular running water, which is called Biyong; while the learning of princes like the Confucius Temple must be surrounded by semicircular running water, which is called Panchi or Banbichi. Therefore, later generations called those who passed the examination and had the academic qualifications to enter the princes as "Ru Pan" or "You Pan". A bridge was built over Panchi, which was called the "Zhuangyuan Bridge".
