Introduction to Wenchang Pavilion: Wenchang Pavilion is located at the southern end of Wushan Mountain, on the shore of Yan River. It was first built in the ninth year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1731). Because the first Kui star is enshrined in the pavilion, it is also called "Kui Pavilion". At that time, "Kui Pavilion Lingxiao" was included in the top ten scenic spots in Xikou. 1
During the Qingming Dynasty in 1924, Chiang Kai-shek returned to his hometown to visit his tomb. Seeing that it was in disrepair and small in scale, he funded the demolition and reconstruction. After completion the following year, he built a two-story pavilion with an area of 500 square meters, painted beams, carved ridges, and cornices. style building, named it Le Pavilion, and wrote "Wuling Le Pavilion Notes" to describe its beautiful scenery. In December 1927, after Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Meiling got married, they often stayed here whenever they came to Xikou. The first floor of Wenchang Pavilion was the reception room, and the second floor was the bedroom and living room of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Meiling.
After the Xi'an Incident, on January 13, 1937, General Zhang Xueliang was sent to Xikou and placed under house arrest. He lived in Wenchang Pavilion for 10 days before being transferred to Xuedou Mountain. On December 12, 1939, six Japanese invading fighter planes bombed Xikou and Wenchang Pavilion was razed to the ground. The current building was rebuilt as it was in 1987.
