Introduction to Yale-China Association: Yali is the homophone of Yale. On June 25, 1901, stimulated by the Boxer Rebellion, the Yale-China Association, an organization for Yale University students to missionary in China, was formally established. Professor Harlan Page Beach was the first chairman, and Deben Kang (Lawrence Thurston) was the first secretary. Debenkang visited China for two years and finally led the Yale-China Association to choose Changsha, Hunan, located in central China, as the base for its work in China.
