Butterfly Grove Introduction: More than 200 giant redwood trees attract visitors to Yosemite National Park’s Butterfly Grove. The most famous of these is the "Gray Giant," which is estimated to be about 1,500 years old and is one of the oldest living cedar trees on Earth. In 1881, a tree was hollowed out to create the "Wawona Tunnel Tree" through which horse-drawn carriages could pass. The fallen tree has become a photo-taking spot for generations of car tourists.
