Introduction to Cave 16: Cave 16 to Cave 20 are the five earliest caves opened in Yungang Grottoes, commonly known as "Tanyao Five Caves." Caves 16 are oval in plan. The main image of Sakyamuni in the center is 13.5 meters high. It is elegant, handsome and unrestrained. It stands on a lotus pedestal. There are thousands of Buddhas and Buddhist niches carved on the surrounding walls.
